- Careem may hold an amount on your payment method while booking a service to make sure there is sufficient balance. This is a temporary authorisation hold.
- This hold amount is similar to the booking estimate
- This amount is not an actual charge
Example:
- You book a Careem service
- Booking estimate is AED 100
- Careem holds AED 100
- Actual cost is AED 90
- AED 90 charged from hold of AED 100
- AED 10 released immediately
- May take 24 hours to reflect on card/account, depending on bank’s policy
If the booking cost is more than the temporary hold amount:
Debit/credit card:
- Booking estimate is AED 100
- Careem holds AED 100
- Actual cost is AED 120
- AED 100 hold is converted to a charge
- AED 20 is charged on a separate transaction
You might see multiple transactions on your card/account but be assured that only the total booking cost will be charged.

- Booking estimate is AED 100
- Careem holds AED 100
- Actual cost is AED 120
- AED 100 hold is converted to a charge
- AED 20 added as negative balance in Pay Wallet
If the booking is cancelled:
- Booking estimate is AED 100
- Careem hold AED 100
- Booking is cancelled
- Cancellation fee AED 20 is charged from hold of AED 100 (if applicable)
- AED 80 released immediately
- May take 24 hours to reflect on card/account, depending on bank’s policy
